Vimal S. Lala, D.O., M.P.H. was born in London, England. He moved to California in 1978 with his family. He pursued his undergraduate education at the University of California, Riverside receiving his bachelor’s degree in Biology. He then obtained his masters degree in Public Health from Loma Linda University focusing in Epidemiology and Health Administration. He graduated Loma Linda University amongst the top of his class. Following his masters degree, Dr. Lala attended the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine. He received his medical degree with honors in all of his clinical core rotations including Surgery, Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Pediatrics, OBGYN and Psychiatry. Upon graduation, he was inducted into Sigma Sigma Phi National Osteopathic Medical Honors Society, signifying his outstanding academic achievements. Dr. Lala completed his residency in Anesthesiology at the prestigious Cleveland Clinic Foundation which is ranked third amongst the top hospitals in the nation by the US News and World Report. While at the Cleveland Clinic, Dr. Lala was honored to receive the position of Chief Resident for his residency program. He also received an award from the Post-operative Anesthesia Care Unit nursing staff for providing “world class” service to his patients. Upon completion of his residency, Dr. Lala moved back to California to further his training in the subspecialty fellowship of Interventional Pain Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). UCLA ranks amongst the top interventional pain medicine programs in the country and Dr. Lala has been very fortunate to learn his skills from the top physicians in the field.
During medical school, Dr. Lala not only learned the science of traditional medicine that MD’s receive but also obtained extra rigorous training in the art and science of osteopathic medicine. Osteopathic physicians learn to treat the human body as a whole and also provide a holistic approach to the treatment regimen. This discipline requires mastering the structure and function relationship of the body which is of paramount importance in pain medicine.
